This month’s challenge is to analyze a maritime logistics dataset that covers global terminal operations, cargo movements, and vessel activity. Here are some key insights from the dashboard: Page 1: 2021 Suez Canal Disruption - The weekly average duration of cargo movement before the Suez incident (Weeks 1-11) was 484 hours, while the average number of containers moved was 26,850. -During the Suez Incident, the average move duration slowed down by 6.84%, and the average no of containers moved decreased by 6.51%. -The Suez incident slowed down move duration in the EMEA region, while move duration in the AMER region improved. The average number of containers moved decreased in the AMER region despite the improvement in move duration, while the average volume increased in the LATAM region. Page 2: Infrastructure Bottleneck analysis - The relationship between move duration and terminal utilization is weak (with correlation value of 0.18), indicating that higher terminal utilization does not necessarily result in longer move duration. There might be other factors that determine move duration. -Angel Castillo has the highest capacity score, making this terminal the strongest candidate for expansion. Page 3: Efficiency Analysis - Among the factors available in the dataset, there is no single factor that strongly predict predicts move duration. - Despite the weak correlation, Shift is still the most actionable finding. Day shifts have consistently slower average move durations across regional hubs, vessel age groups, and vessel categories. Shift scheduling is something to be explored. Things I would have done to improve my report: - Converted hours into days for easier and more natural gauging of the move duration (eg, 20 days instead of 484 hours) - explored more on other factors and better model to predict efficiency - worked more on html content for cleaner labels
